About Ian Newport
Dr. Ian Newport is a foot and ankle surgeon who moved to the Phoenix area after completing his residency in Northern California at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara, a teaching affiliate of Stanford Medical School. During his surgical residency training he was privileged to be selected and to serve as Chief Resident of the Podiatric Surgical Department. Here he received extensive training in foot and ankle deformities, arthroscopic technique, reconstructive surgery, and management of lower extremity trauma in both adults and children. He also received comprehensive training in orthopedic surgery/traumatology, pediatric orthopedics, sports medicine, emergency medicine, vascular surgery, infectious disease, internal medicine, plastic surgery, and endocrinology. To ensure the best care for his patients, Dr. Newport continues to further his knowledge by attending advanced courses in topics such as arthroscopy, and frequents the annual American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons Conference. He takes pride in research-based medicine and has presented at many of these conferences.
Dr. Newport received his medical degree from Kent State University, an affiliate of Case Western Reserve Medical School in Cleveland, Ohio. He obtained his undergraduate degree at Saint Louis University where he majored in Biology with a minor in anthropology. Dr. Newport was born and raised in Springfield, Missouri where he grew up playing sports. He went on to play Division 1 soccer for St. Louis University. During his tenure, they won the Atlantic 10 conference title and went to the NCAA National tournament almost every year. Dr. Newport’s athletic background continues to drive his interest in sports medicine and he takes pride in helping athletes not only recovery from injury, but prevent re-injury moving forward.
Dr. Newport places great emphasis on philanthropy and most recently served on a medical mission trip to Vietnam. Here he had the privilege of providing aid to the local population and treated many rare surgical conditions. While in Vietnam, Dr. Newport was able to work in collaboration with many local surgeons to discuss advances in modern orthopedic surgical technique.
In his free time, he is an avid outdoor enthusiast, golfer and woodworker. He is loves to explore the Arizona desert and all that it has to offer with his wife and dog.

If you think you might have a bunion, the first step is to consult a podiatrist or other foot and ankle specialist. They can evaluate your feet, assess the severity of your bunion(s), and provide treatment recommendations. They may suggest non-surgical options first, or they may recommend surgery. As with any surgical procedure, the cost of minimally invasive bunion surgery can vary widely depending on several factors – your geographic location, the surgeon and their practice, and the outpatient surgical center or hospital facility. Any costs you may incur will depend on your health insurance policy and the specifics of your medical condition(s). Only you and your podiatrist or surgeon can determine the best time for you to have bunion repair surgery. Factors like your age, the severity of your bunion or bunions, your level and types of physical activity, other foot and ankle conditions like hammertoes, other health conditions that may impact your surgery and healing, etc. Some people may choose to correct bunions while they’re mild, while others may prefer to wait. Recovery from bunion surgery depends on factors like the severity of the bunion(s), the patient’s age and other medical factors, whether other foot and ankle procedures are performed at the same time, how closely the patient is able to adhere to post-op instructions, and other variables.
